In the long-track speedskating event, there’ll surely be a determination accompanying the Netherlands’ Ireen Wust, as she missed out on gold by just 0.08 seconds in the longer 3,000 metres distance.

Wust appeared to be in total control before a poor last lap allowed compatriot Carlijn Achtereekte to take top spot. It was an agonising way to see a gold medal slip out of grasp.

“I went really well, only the last lap was really hard,” she said afterwards, per Reuters (h/t SBS). “In the end I was so close but it’s not good enough. I have to be satisfied with the silver, although it hurts a little bit.”
